Appranix recently rolled out support providing resilience for Application environments deployed in a GCP Shared VPC architecture. The VPC is hosted in one project and is shared between multiple service projects within the organization to get the advantage of having multiple application instances communicate using the private network of Google cloud as opposed to the public internet, increasing the speed and security of the Application.
To know more about GCP Shared VPC setup and its benefits, refer to the GCP Shared VPC documentation here.
Appranix now helps migrate your instances hosted in project confined VPC (service project VPC) to a VPC shared from a hosted project within the GCP Organization with a click of a button.
To achieve the same, all you have to do is to establish two cloud connection
Now that the Cloud Connection is made, create an Appranix Cloud Assembly. Choose the instances you plan to migrate from the current service project VPC and apply an immediate protection policy to instantly protect the instances. Once the protection is complete, choose the timeline and click recover. While configuring the recovery, select recover to “Existing VPC” and select the source Cloud Connection to point to the service project’s Cloud Connection. Select the target Cloud Connection to point to the host project’s (Shared-VPC Host Project) Cloud Connection. Choose Region based on your use case.
Now, proceed to recover, and you can see that all the instances from your current VPC are moved to the shared VPC effortlessly.
In order to migrate from a shared VPC back to the service project VPC, the same has to be done in reverse.
